The Return to the Forgotten Treasure

By Br. Shibu Peediyekkal
Houston, USA

There are moments in life when God interrupts your journey—not to punish, not to shame, but to reveal. To open your eyes. To show you the treasure that was always yours, buried beneath dust, wrapped in neglect, untouched because you assumed it was ordinary.

My name is Shibu Peediyekkal.
I was born into the ancient Syrian Orthodox Church, baptized into the living stream of apostolic tradition, raised under prayers and liturgies thousands of years old. I was born inside the treasure-house of the early Church.

And I almost walked past it.

Like many from my generation, I drifted.
First into agnosticism, questioning everything.
Then into Pentecostal revival, seeking spiritual fire.
Then into evangelical zeal, seeking Scripture truth.
Then into charismatic movements, seeking experience.

For 25 years, I preached passionately as a Pentecostal pastor—
with sincerity, with fire, with conviction.
I gave everything I had to God.
I prayed, fasted, studied, traveled, and led countless people to deeper faith.

But slowly, painfully, honestly—I realized something:

The more I preached, the more I sought answers the Western gospel could not give.
The more I prayed, the more the questions deepened.
The more I searched, the more distant the truth felt.

I am not ashamed to say this.
My mistakes are not my embarrassment—they are my education.
Every step, even the wrong ones, became God’s way of leading me back home.

The Turning Point: The Treasure Was Always at Home

There came a moment—a moment I cannot forget—when I finally discovered what I had been missing. Not through visions. Not through miracles. But through truth that was quietly waiting for me.

After decades of preaching a sin-centric gospel, practicing emotional Christianity, and chasing one revival after another, I realized:

The answers I was searching for were not missing—
I was looking in the wrong direction.

The wisdom,
the cosmic revelation,
the sacramental depth,
the Trinitarian fullness,
the Christ-centered vision,
the Apostolic continuity,

were all already present in the very Church where I was born, baptized, and nourished.

I had been holding imitation gold while my ancestors had passed down the real treasure.

The Orthodox tradition—the faith of the apostles, the Church Fathers, the Syriac desert saints, the ancient liturgy—had everything the human soul needs:

  • answers for suffering

  • answers for the cosmos

  • answers for Scripture

  • answers for unity

  • answers for spiritual healing

  • answers for humanity’s destiny

For decades, I had preached sincerely but incompletely.
Now I found the fullness that made everything whole.

Why I Began Preaching Orthodoxy

When the truth finally dawned, when the fog of confusion lifted, it hit me with clarity:

If Orthodoxy truly holds the apostolic treasure,
then millions are missing the truth simply because
no one showed them the map.

I could not remain silent.

I started preaching Orthodoxy—not as theory, not as pride, but as discovery.
People listened. Many were healed. Many found meaning. Many returned to their roots.

But I also realized something heartbreaking:

The very Church that preserved the treasure is losing it through neglect.
The West is now seeking the Orthodox truth that the East is ignoring.

Like a family hiding gold at home while they beg outside for imitation jewelry, many of our Oriental, Eastern, and Malankara churches are walking away from the treasure in their hands.

I wrote this book because:

  • Orthodoxy is rising again in the West.

  • People are hungry for ancient truth.

  • The world needs a cosmic, sacramental, Trinitarian worldview.

  • The next generation is searching for authenticity.

  • Christianity cannot survive its divisions.

  • The imitation gospels cannot sustain the human soul.

  • The time has come for a new beginning grounded in the original intention of Christ.

My Journey Is Not Mine Alone

My wife, Dr. Swapna, has been my strongest supporter—wise, compassionate, steady.
And our five daughters—each brilliant in their education and careers—have been witnesses to this lifelong search for truth.

Our home in Houston became a place of:

  • discussions

  • debates

  • tears

  • breakthroughs

  • rediscovery

  • prayer

  • worship

  • restoration

And finally, Orthodoxy—not as a label, but as life.

This book is born from that journey.

An Invitation to All Seekers

I am not a perfect man—
I am a man who seeks.

I welcome discussion.
I welcome correction.
I welcome dialogue with every tradition—
Orthodox, Catholic, Protestant, Pentecostal, Evangelical.

I believe unity is not a dream;
it is Christ’s command.

This book is written with one prayer:

May all Christians rediscover the original intention of God

the cosmic Christ,
the living Trinity,
the sacramental universe,
the undivided Church,

and the treasure that was always ours.**

If you read this book with an open heart,
you will not just learn—
you will transform.

You will taste the wisdom the West is now seeking.
You will inherit the treasure your ancestors preserved.
You will become a part of God’s great restoration.

And perhaps—
heaven will look at you and smile,
because you found what God always wanted you to enjoy.

Welcome.
